"single family house in the multi-family house

    completion 2015

    appreciation "Das Goldene Haus 2015"

A multi-family house in the south of Erfurt, which was built in the 1920s, faces a generational change. (As the owners had acquired a more age-appropriate apartment in the city centre, the ground floor apartment became free for the family of the son. The apartment includes a basement area without much light or spatial quality.

  • The new apartment will now be at ground level and neutrally developed. The floor was partially set deeper in order to provide the dining area with more ceiling height. The living room has a generous opening to the garden, which allows new uses through the exterior design. The floor above it with the bedrooms is now connected with an internal staircase. Keeping the old hallways in combination with a contemporary form and antique furniture creates a self-contained interior space. This allows a relatively affordable single family house to be made, which fully utilises the charm of the location by allowing the house and garden to fuse into one unit.
