• Bus station
    Weißenhorn (D)

The town of Weißenhorn is located south-west of Ulm in Bavaria’s Swabia region. Beyond the picturesque, baroque centre is a small, vacant train station. As the railway line has recently been reopened, many passengers will once again be transferring to buses, appropriate roofing is ideally desired. However, the bus platforms had already been built, and a few foundation points already set for a future roof. And a (low) amount had already been agreed on for the construction costs.
Our aim was therefore for develop a flexible roof for the eight bus platforms, capable of adapting to changing budgets.

  • At the same time, we wanted to give the barren area surrounding the station a new, unmistakable identity accentuating small-town charm. The sunshade symbolises good weather and conviviality, making this area, situated between industrial estates and residential homes, a place worth visiting in itself. The steel parasol construction was covered with a semi-transparent membrane, reinterpreted as a funnel, and drained inwardly. Permanent outdoor chairs round off the beer-garden vibe.
