The free-standing Wilhelminian-style house was in terrible condition, requiring full reconstruction in some parts. The internal building structure was redesigned to create seven high-quality apartments. Those on the upper levels are maisonettes.
The overhanging steel balconies at the southern end were clad in fabric.
