    The overriding theme of the design is that of scale – which is often lacking in large housing developments. Clear allocation of private and public open spaces ensures appropriate occupancy and maintenance.

    Sizes are geared around the five-storey structure opposite, but are split into equal units containing functional households for 6-22 tenants.

    Staggered in a chequerboard-like layout, they create defined garden courtyards that are each shared by two homes. These broaden out in such a way that they enable views of neighbouring courtyards and the Gera Aue parkland.

    A local square and playground using existing trees provide a new meeting place for residents.
