Train station complex
Rottenburg am Neckar (D)
2015 competition
2nd prize (no 1st prize awarded)
In co-operation with clubL94 landscape architects
and Sehlhoff GmbH traffic planners
The planned bus station acts as a transportation hub. The stops are arranged in such a way as to enable unimpeded approaches from both directions. The new roof connects the bus and train stations, while a footbridge (with elevator) links the area around the Klause [hermitage] to the southern residential district, and provides pedestrian access to the old town.
A bike parking facility with a small workshop/hire centre is planned for the western side of the former train station building. Its roofing matches that of the bus station, the change in alignment allowing the edges of the station square to be covered.
The barrier-free footbridge runs directly from the roof of the bus station to the grassy roof of the parking building, which adjoins the top of the retreat area to form an urban balcony.
