• Embankment project
    The colour of rubbish
    Erfurt (D), dma s.t.u.b.e.

Exhibition with photographs and texts by Kathrin Flanagan and Jockel Deckert

During our long walks, we were getting annoyed at seeing ridiculous piles of rubbish along the embankment. Paint buckets, refrigerators, beer bottles, vacuum cleaners, deflated footballs and much more. We photographed the eyesore first, and our disgust disappeared when we saw the pictures. We discovered the beauty in the brightly coloured compositions.

  • Perceptions changed. New photographs with staged objects and situations saw the non-aesthetic become aesthetic. This was followed by an exhibition and a guided tour with public promotions to allow more people to change their perceptions.
